Project Description
Questions & Answers.
Name: Áine Coady
Job title: Producer/Production of Poison Pen
What inspired you to go work in the Film Industry in Ireland?
Films and filmmaking are something I’ve always been interested in. After University and a
stint in retail management, I both fell into, and fell in love with the production side of
filmmaking. There was no defining moment but rather an evolution to my role in filmmaking.
What has been your career path to date?
It has been very student based so far. I am a graduate in Sociology and Psychology from
UCC, I have just finished my masters in Digital Feature Film Production course at Filmbase in
Dublin. During the course I produced two short films and a feature which further cemented
my love for production.
Who inspires you?
Irish talents like Lenny Abrahamason, Kristen Sheridan and the Gleesons. When you’re on
set the motivation of the cast and crew and the relationships you develop further inspire
you.
What does Copyright mean to you and your career?
At whatever level you’re making films be it independent or studio, copyright is very
important in the film industry for fair use.
Tell us a funny work story…..
When you’re in production you caught up in the moment, reality becomes blurred.
You get tunnel vision and as a result find yourself in ridiculous situations like roaming the
streets of London in the early hours of the morning looking for that perfect shot or thinking
it’s perfectly normal to have a makeshift bed in your production office.
When we were shooting our opening scene for Poison Pen, some of our extras cancelled on
us, so we went to a nearby library and gym and convinced hardworking students to take a
well deserved break for an afternoon.
What’s your favourite film?
I would have to pick my childhood favourite, Stand by Me. Also I must give honourable
mentions to Shawshank Redemption, There Will Be Blood and Cool Runnings, Good Will
Hunting, Napolean Dynamite…….
