Project Description

Questions & Answers.

Name: Lorna Fitzsimons
Job title: Director

What inspired you to go work in the Film Industry in Ireland?
Working in film for me is a compulsion, I am compelled to tell stories through pictures.
I’m not quite sure why I’m here but I am and I love it.

What has been your career path to date?
After school I started out getting some work experience in a photography studio but ended
up there for a number of years, while studying photography in college. I met several great
photographers there, whom I subsequently assisted and learnt my craft from, then went out on
my own as a fashion photographer. Film had always been in the back of my mind but it wasn’t
till years later I found myself bedridden with a leg in plaster that I decided to use the time
to write a screen play, then I had to make it.

Who inspires you?
Lots of people but especially Directors who make films about real people
like Andrea Arnold and Lena Dunham.

What does Copyright mean to you and your career?
Fair payment for original work.

Tell us a funny work story….
4am on Leister Square in London filming the sun rising over one
of the neon lit buildings (a GV for Poison Pen) and two rather drunk blokes decided they
wanted to be in the shot. What they didn’t figure out was because the camera was angled
upwards at the skyline they weren’t actually in shot, so I let them jump around and make ejits
of themselves. When they got board they asked what I was doing I told them all about the
film and they turned out to be really nice students, very interested in film making and
profusely apologised about trying to ruin the shot. Anyway, it never made it into the film, as so
much of the footage doesn’t, but it was rater funny listening to the conversation in the edit
suite.

What’s your favourite film?
Oh I have lots, ‘Rosmaries Baby’,’Momento’ ‘Rust and Bone’
‘Kung Foo Panda’, ‘Fish Tank’
